IN POTATOES WE TRUST: ARBIKIE HIGHLAND ESTATE DISTILLERY
August 19, 2015
Arbikie Highland Estate is a family-owned working farm located on the east coast of Angus in Scotland right between Dundee and Aberdeen. The Stirling family has been farming at Arbikie for four generations. From father to son - gaining an intuitive understanding of the land, sowing and harvesting the crops that now create Arbikie’s spirits. Thanks to its unique location Arbikie Highland Estate Distillery is profoundly shaped by environment.
“The red sandstone-tinted soil, the powerful sea and the turbulent weather give Arbike Vodka a character found nowhere else”, say Stirling brothers.
It truly is a perfect place to build a distillery!
The Arbikie Highland Estate Distillery is a genuinely single-site operation – all the ingredients are planted, sown, grown and harvested within an arms-length of the distillery. The mountain-filtered water is taken from their own underground lagoon. You can feel the energy and passion Stirling brothers John, Iain and David put into their vodka making. And I can honestly tell you after a first sip of their triple distilled Arbikie vodka I was stunned. It was an unforgettable experience. Whether it’s the three different varieties of potatoes they use, the copper still or the water filtered through the Angus hills, the taste of Arbikie vodka is something new, something I have never tasted before. It is ultra-smooth, creamy and "extravagant" - little stronger in percentage than usual vodka (43% vol) - which makes it special.
